I
write feature articles, primarily. I've done so for most national
newspapers in the UK, as well as for magazines ranging from
the popular to the arcane.
Travel
pieces make up a substantial part of my output. In researching
them, I've had occasion to leap off a cliff in Zambia, get
uncomfortably close to polar bears in the Canadian north,
and notch up a 1,503rd placing in the world's longest downhill
ski race.
For all that, the true freelancer is as shameless an omnivore
as the common rat, and I'll cover pretty much any subject.
I've enjoyed writing on politics and public life, language
and media, rock music, food and drink, classic cars and intellectual
property, among countless other topics. I can often manage
a swift turnaround on copy.

I'm also an experienced editor, having looked after magazines,
books and newspaper supplements. I'm happy to advise on editorial
projects and provide consultancy services.
